Can any tile or mantel be used around a fireplace?
Material selection and location depend on the appliance listing, installation instructions, and applicable rules. Have the exact assembly reviewed before buying materials.
Can a remodel include a new gas insert?
Replacing or adding an appliance is separate from surround and mantel work and is not part of this service. If you are considering a new appliance, mention it in your request so the existing system can be assessed first.
Do I need a permit?
It depends on the work and where you live. Changes to the appliance, venting, gas or electrical work commonly need one; a cosmetic surround may not. Check with your local building department.
Should the fireplace be inspected before a remodel?
If it has not been inspected recently, yes. It is easier to fix the firebox, damper or chimney before new finishes go on.
Will a remodel make my fireplace safer?
